She Erased Uncle Herschel. America Erased the CEO.
In August 2025, Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino did the unthinkable: she erased Uncle Herschel — the man in the rocking chair who’d been on the logo since 1977 — and replaced him with a minimalist wordmark. She called it “transformation.”
The market called it something else. The stock dropped 12-14% in three days. Roughly $100 million in market cap, gone. The internet called the new logo “generic,” “soulless,” and “bland.” Then Donald Trump posted on Truth Social telling the company to reverse course. Forbes
Cracker Barrel folded in eight days. The logo came back. Restaurant remodels were cancelled. Masino told Glenn Beck: “I feel like I’ve been fired by America.”
Shareholders voted to keep her in November 2025. It didn’t matter. On July 27, 2026 — eleven months after the logo returned — Masino announced she’s stepping down, effective August 10. Her replacement: Bloomin’ Brands veteran David Deno. 24/7 Wall St
She lasted 33 months. The logo lasted 8 days as a corpse before America dug it back up.
Uncle Herschel is back on every menu, every sign, every social post. She isn’t. The rocker outlasted the rebrand — which is exactly what a rocker is supposed to do. Same pattern as Jaguar’s Copy Nothing collapse: rebrand backfires, market cap evaporates, CEO exits.
